Community Supports

We are devastated by the loss of life and the profound impact this tragedy has had on families, students, staff, and our entire district and region. Our community has been shaken by this tragedy. We are grieving alongside the families and individuals most directly affected. This is a painful time for all. Our deepest condolences are with the loved ones of those who have been lost. We are holding close everyone who is injured, grieving, and affected.

On behalf of the District, we want to thank the brave teachers, administrators, students and first responders who acted selflessly, putting their own safety aside to help those in need and to prevent further tragedy.

We recognize that there are many questions to be answered as we all try to make sense of this incomprehensible and devastating event. We ask residents to rely only on confirmed information provided through official RCMP updates as the investigation continues. Our community is strong; we are family; we need to help each other.

We encourage residents to check in on one another and hold your loved ones close as we navigate this unimaginable loss together. For those who require support, counselling, or mental health services, those are available at the Tumbler Ridge Health Centre.

Candlelight Vigil

As our community continues to support one another in grief, the District is inviting residents to gather for a public community vigil on Friday at dusk (approx. 6:00pm) at Town Hall.

This vigil will provide a space to come together, reflect and honour all those affected by this week’s tragedy.

All members of the public are welcome to attend.

Date: Friday, February 13, 2026

Time: 6:00 pm

Place: Town Hall Front Steps (305 Iles Way)

Support Services Currently Available:

Our community has experienced a tragic and deeply traumatic event. We recognize that the impact of this loss is immeasurable. Grief has no timeline, and each of us will process this loss in our own way, both individually and as a community. While words can feel inadequate in moments like this, coming together can help reduce isolation and remind us that we are not alone.

Community Gathering Space:
School District 59 has created a space at the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre (340 Front Street, Tumbler Ridge) for members of our school community to gather over the coming days, and as needed. All are welcome to attend and connect with one another. Mental health professionals will be present to provide support and walk alongside those who need it.
