Permissive Tax Exemptions

Council may, by bylaw and subject to specific requirements, exempt eligible properties from municipal property taxes for the upcoming calendar year. These exemptions must be adopted on or before October 31.

To promote fair and consistent treatment of all applicants, Council adopted the Permissive Tax Exemption Policy on February 5, 2018. The policy sets out eligibility criteria and the application process for organizations seeking an exemption.

Currently, in Tumbler Ridge, exemptions are granted for up to a three-year term, meaning approved organizations do not need to reapply annually. However, applications must still be submitted by June 15 in the year of the application cycle.

Newly eligible organizations may apply in any year, provided they submit their application by the June 15 deadline.
